About Us
Understanding mothers differently.
Understanding mothers differently.
Grounded Momma Collective is a Specialist Maternal Mental Health organisation founded by Charlotte Hamilton.
We exist to better understand what happens when the psychological, emotional and relational demands of motherhood begin to exceed the capacity a mother has available to meet them and to turn that understanding into meaningful support.
Through direct work with mothers, research-informed insight, assessment, intervention and social impact, Grounded Momma Collective is building a different way of understanding maternal overwhelm.
Mothers who were functioning; working, parenting, organising, caring and keeping family life moving, while privately feeling overwhelmed, depleted, irritable, disconnected or unable to switch off.
Sometimes that showed up as snapping, sometimes anxiety, sometimes shutdown, guilt, overstimulation or the feeling of having absolutely nothing left.
While those experiences can look very different, an important question began to emerge:
That question has shaped the evolution of Grounded Momma Collective and the development of Motherhood Capacity™, an emerging framework for exploring the relationship between the demands a mother is carrying and the psychological, emotional and relational capacity she currently has available to meet them.
Charlotte Hamilton is the founder of Grounded Momma Collective and Grounded Momma Movement CIC, a Maternal Mental Health & Trauma Specialist, Mental Health Mentor and Psychology Researcher.
My work sits at the intersection of psychology, trauma, maternal mental health and lived motherhood.
I hold a BSc in Psychology and MRes in Neuropsychology & Rehabilitation, with research experience including work connected to parental stress and neuropsychological rehabilitation.
My practice draws upon training and experience across person-centred counselling, EMDR-informed practice, DBT, somatic approaches and breathwork, alongside years of supporting people experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties.
But Grounded Momma Collective hasn't been shaped by professional knowledge alone.
I'm a mother too.
My own experiences of pregnancy, birth, trauma, responsibility and the realities of raising a family have deeply influenced the questions I ask about maternal mental health.
Grounded Momma Collective grew from bringing those worlds together...
What psychology tells us, what mothers tell us, and what motherhood actually feels like from the inside.
Grounded Momma Collective works both directly with mothers and at a wider community and organisational level.
Individual support, assessment & intervention.
We work directly with mothers through our Motherhood Capacity™ tools, personalised assessment, ongoing capacity support and trauma-informed 1:1 intervention.
Our work includes Calm & Control™, Grounded Momma Sanctuary™, Heal Mother Thrive™ and the Grounded Momma Method™.
Community access & social impact.
Grounded Momma Movement CIC is our social-impact arm, created to increase access to trauma-informed maternal mental health support through community programmes, funded provision, partnerships and collaborative work.
Its role is to help take the principles behind Grounded Momma Collective beyond private individual support and into the communities where mothers live.
Built from research, practice and lived experience.
Grounded in psychology, neuropsychology and research experience spanning maternal stress, parental wellbeing and psychological rehabilitation.
Informed by experience across mental health mentoring, person-centred counselling, DBT, somatic approaches, breathwork and trauma-informed practice.
Shaped by lived motherhood alongside direct work and conversations with mothers, assessment insights and the experiences mothers share about what they're carrying.
Grounded Momma exists to help create a future where mothers are understood not only by how they appear to be coping, but by what they're carrying, what is depleting their capacity and what could help restore it.
